Panama registered a new record of patients with Covid-19 in intensive care units (ICU), according to the epidemiological report of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) of this Thursday. As of this date, 237 people are hospitalized, eight more than those reported on Wednesday. The previous record was on January 4 with 235 patients in the ICU. The report highlights that 57 deaths from coronavirus are reported, of which 46 are from the last 24 hours and 11 included from previous dates. The total number of deaths since the pandemic began, in March 2020, amounts to 4,651 (giving a fatality rate of 1.6%).  According to the report 2,877 new cases are reported, for a cumulative total of 291,285. Of this last figure, 230,702 patients have recovered. The health authorities applied 13,269 tests to date, for a positivity percentage of 21.6%

The field hospital in La Chorrera, West Panama province, has already received the first patients with Covid-19 for hospitalization.

The British government on Thursday prohibited arrivals from all South American countries, Panama, and also Portugal “given its close travel ties with Brazil “, due to the new strain of the coronavirus found in the Brazilian Amazon.

The Land Transit and Transportation Authority (ATTT) reported this Wednesday, that in Panama and West Panama, starting today Friday, taxis whose plates end in 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 will be able to circulate.
