This project, whose reference price is $ 63 million, was rejected last week by the Guna General Congress, stating that the impacted communities and the highest authorities of the region were not consulted at the time the work was carried out. In this context, they detailed that the 38.3-kilometer highway would imply at least 10 works in the riverbed, impacting the water resource in an area of marine-coastal wetlands. The MOP reported that it was a “rapprochement” meeting with indigenous authorities of the Guna Yala region, in which doubts and concerns about the Santa Isabel-Cartí project were clarified. He specified that the “suspension” of the tender was agreed until a dialogue with the Guna Congress was held.
