Coat_of_Arms_of_Panama.svgWith an hour and fifteen minutes delay, the hearing began to decide whether to extradite former President Ricardo Martinelli. It concluded with a new hearing for August 22.

Construction company Norberto Odebrecht will pay $22 million annually for twelve years to pay off a $220 million fine imposed by the Attorney General’s Office, for using the Panamanian financial center to move money to pay bribes to officials and politicians.

The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office charged Adolfo Chichi De Obarrio with the alleged crime of unjustified enrichment. In the past government he served as private secretary to the President of the Republic, Ricardo Martinelli.

Law firm Mossack Fonseca questioned the actions of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the investigations that are filed against it.

Civil society leaders rejected Wednesday that Panameñista Jorge Alberto Rosas, who presented his resignation to the presidency of the Credentials Committee, still remains as one of the nine deputies that make up that legislative body.

The secretary general of the National Commission against Human Trafficking said that the crimes of sexual or labor exploitation and organ trafficking are being fought in Panama.

As of Sunday, August 6, the Panama Canal will extend the opening hours to the public at the Miraflores Visitor Center.
