The United States has extended the license that will allow the daily newspapers La Estrella de Panamá and El Siglo, as well as Soho Mall, all owned by Abdul Waked, to have access to the US financial and commercial markets.

The Government of Panama will continue to work to protect the jobs of Panamanians in situations that are at risk, said President Juan Carlos Varela yesterday, shortly after the extension of the operating license for the newspapers La Estrella and El Siglo, affected by the “Clinton List” emitted by the United States.

On Wednesday, PRD Deputies Elías Castillo and Zulay Rodríguez presented a draft bill to better control and regulate the entry of foreigners to Panama, a proposal presented to the plenary of the National Assembly.

In the last months of 2016, a shortage of medicines was generated in hospitals of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) and the Social Security Fund (CSS). This lack of medicines caused anger among the patients of the two institutions.

The National Police announced that it doubled the reward for the information that leads to the capture of the Dominican Gilberto Ventura Ceballos, who escaped on Dec. 28 from La Joyita penitentiary.

Buying a blocked mobile phone in the mobile phone service concessionaires will be in the past. As of April 1, 2017, companies that sell mobile phones must release them, as ordered by the National Public Services Authority (ASEP).

The first days of 2017 brought positive changes to the Municipality of Panama, as Mayor José Isabel Blandón announced the creation of the Directorate of Culture and Citizen Education.
