What a way to start the day! With two high powered bottles of wine! Carlos, Yazmin and I do a blind tasting of a couple of great wines, one of which comes from France the other from California. We all in fact favored the first wine sampled it had a bit more body and very smooth on the palate, in fact it was the younger of the two wines coming from…. California.
Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
Winemaker’s Notes :The 2012 vintage marks the fortieth Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon release from Joseph Phelps Vineyards. This latest bottling highlights beautiful aromatics of dark fruit, cigar box, dried herbs, graphite notes and pain grille. Expressive Bing cherry, licorice, blueberry and blackberry layer this silky smooth wine of great depth and personality. Richly nuanced with supple tannins and a lingering velvety finish.
Blend: 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot, 1% Malbec and 1% Cabernet Franc
Critical Acclaim: International Wine Cellar – ” Bright, deep ruby. Serious aromas of blueberry, licorice and menthol. Shows very good sweetness and density to the black fruit and curry powder flavors. Still tightly wound but the tannins are nicely integrated, showing none of the harsh edge of the 2011 version. Finishes with sneaky length. Range: 89-91″
