In the last 24 hours, 8 people have died in the country from the new coronavirus, which raises the total number of deaths to 87 in Panama, since the first case was reported a month ago. Israel Martínez, a doctor from the Ministry of Health (Minsa), reported that a total of 3,400 cases of the new coronavirus (Covid-19) are registered.

Of that total, 2,955 people are in home isolation and 329 people are hospitalized. There are 223 people in the hospital ward and 106 people in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

As of this Sunday, a total of 29 people have recovered and have been sent home.

Since last March 18, when the curfew began, and until the early hours of, Saturday, at least 11,443 people had been detained on the streets for defying mandatory confinement to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

At least 25 people have been charged with the alleged commission of crimes such as incitement to looting, spread of the Covid-19 virus and falsification of the safe-conduct documents that the Government provides as allowing an exception to circulate amid the pandemic.

President Laurentino Cortizo instructed the Social Security Fund (CSS) to suspend the contract for storage and distribution of medicines, for $ 168 million, which was awarded on April 7 to the Health in Control Consortium.

Some supermarkets have begun to limit access to personnel who provide home delivery services, this is to prioritize and expedite the entry of customers who leave home to shop during the permitted hours, according to the national curfew measure.
