The number of people infected with the new coronavirus (Covid-19) in Panama rose to 55, Health Minister Rosario Turner reported on Sunday, March 15.

The director of the National Civil Protection System (Sinaproc), Carlos Rumbo Pérez, has stated that the institution has placed a red flag on beaches, rivers and spas nationwide, “as part of the preventive measures before Covid-19 , based on article 2 of the decree that creates the state of emergency, in which activities involving the gathering of people are suspended ”.

The Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) temporarily suspended the embarkation and disembarkation of passengers and crew of cruise ships, mini cruises, deep draft ships and yachts, in ports, berths and anchorage area of ​​all the Panamanian territory, coming from six countries where Multiple cases of the coronavirus have been reported .

The Panama Canal Authority announced that the Miraflores visitor center, in the capital city, and the Agua Clara, in Colón will remain closed as of this Monday, March 16, until further notice.

The authorities of the Ministry of Health, in coordination with security personnel, closed six stores on Saturday night in the capital city for not complying with the regulations established in Decree 472, which sets out the measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus .

Dwellers from the community of El Valle de Antón, in the province of Coclé, expressed their concern at the large number of people who have arrived in the area during the weekend.

The order to cancel the flights between Panama and Venezuela given by the Government of Nicolás Maduro with the aim of containing the spread of the coronavirus left Venezuelans stranded in Panama who were planning to travel to their country of origin.
