The accumulated cases of Covid-19 in Panama increased to 320,379 , this Sunday, 926 new infections were reported. 25 deaths in the last 24 hours, which brings the total number of deaths from this disease to 5,270. A previous death was updated. The new cases were detected after 6,692 tests were applied, which showed a positivity of 13.8%. There are 2,433 people hospitalized, of which 2,186 remain confined in the wards and 247 in intensive care units.

Authorities of the Social Security Fund of Herrera confirmed Sunday, an outbreak of the new coronavirus in the internal medicine room of the Gustavo Nelson Collado de Chitré hospital. Luis Rodríguez, institutional medical director of the CSS in Herrera, said that cases of the new coronavirus occurred among doctors and nurses of the hospital.

The Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre , reported that they are evaluating to advance the date of reopening of restaurants in the country. Sucre stressed that “we are evaluating the possibilities of opening them”, before the scheduled date, which is February 15.

“The serious economic crisis that we are experiencing is the result of the forced closure of our companies and the establishment of restrictive measures of freedom with serious consequences that arise when the State does not have checks or balances, much less harmonious collaboration to manage the economy in an orderly manner”.

Panama is laying the foundations to become a regional hub in the sustainable finance market. This was stated by Gema Sacristán, general director of business at IDB Invest, the arm of the Inter-American Development Bank that works with the private sector.

The Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office concluded the investigation phase and is now preparing the hearing in the case of the alleged cost overruns and money laundering in the contract for phase II of the Via Brasil Corridor, a project carried out by Fomento de Contrucciones y Contratas (FCC) .

Twelve packages were seized on the outer perimeter of the La Joyita prison, behind pavilion 12, the Ministry of Government reported this Sunday. The seizure was carried out in different places in a ravine near the prison, finding in the packages: 130 9mm caliber ammunition, 7,658 packs of cigarettes and four bottles of liquor.
