This Sunday, the epidemiological report on the situation of Covid-19 in the country highlighted that in the last 24 hours 37 deaths have been reported. With the 1,972 new positive cases detected this Sunday, there are accumulated 253,736, according to the Minsa. Today 7,838 tests were applied, for a percentage of positivity of 25.1%. On the other hand, active cases total 47,780. With the 37 new deaths, there are 4,140 accumulated deaths in the country, with a fatality of 1.6%. While the hospitalized number 2,299, of them 2,081 are in a ward and 218 in an intensive care unit.

The Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, recalled this Sunday, January 3, that the Gorgas Memorial Institute has already reported that “we are facing two strains that are more contagious” than the one that initially arrived in the country.

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported, that Panama negotiated directly with the companies the purchases of vaccines against Covid-19 . “There are rules worldwide according to which negotiations for the acquisition of anti-covid vaccines have to take place only between States and manufacturing companies, without the participation of any intermediary,” he said via Twitter.

The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo , sanctioned the bill that reduces from seven to five years the prescription of debts in the credit history of the APC platform.

The Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama (Cciap) considered this Sunday, January 3, that President Laurentino Cortizo in his speech to the Nation -on January 2 in the National Assembly- left out “that Panama begins the year with the worst health situation in the region and closes 2020 with the most abrupt economic decline in Latin America ”.

The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo, in his report to the Nation from the National Assembly, avoided specifying a start date for vaccination against Covid-19 , an issue that, he said, is crucial for economic reactivation plans.

During the next two weeks, the deputies will discuss virtually the bills that are on the agenda of the plenary session of the National Assembly .
