The epidemiological report for this Wednesday, June 2, highlights that some 678 new cases of COVID-19 have been registered in Panama, bringing the accumulated infections to 379,506. The Ministry of Health ( Minsa ) also advises that in the last 24 hours there have been 2 new deaths and two more from previous days are updated, increasing to 6,381 deaths from this new coronavirus in the country. The lethality of the virus is 1.7%. So far some 366,508 people have recovered from the virus and active cases 6,617. From this last figure there are 5,863 people confined to their homes, while another 333 are in the hospital hotels. While in the hospital wards there are 361 confined patients and 60 in intensive care units. In the last hours in the country, some 10,866 new tests have been carried out to detect COVID-19, which have yielded a positivity of 6.2%.

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) reported in its biweekly report that Panama registered an increase in active cases of Covid-19 of 61% between May 1 and 29. According to the PAHO, from May 1, corresponding to epidemiological week 17, to day 29, epidemiological week 21, active cases went from 3,896 to 6,276.

With four townships that register at least 100 people infected with the new coronavirus , the metropolitan region has 24% of the active cases reported nationwide, according to statistics from the Ministry of Health (Minsa). The Metropolitan Region of Health of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) fined the owners of La Fragata restaurant and the Westin hotel in Playa Bonita with 5,000 dollars each for failing to comply with the regulations established by the Covid-19 pandemic. On the other hand, sanctions were imposed on two Red Lion pubs, located in Bella Vista and San Felipe. Cedeño clarified that the Red Lion in San Felipe closed its operations permanently, while the one in Bella Vista was fined $ 1,500. The Ombudsman’s Office reported on Wednesday afternoon, that Maribel Coco “ceased to hold the position of deputy defender” as part of a renewal process of the current administration of ombudsman Eduardo Leblanc. That dismissal was official since May 4, according to the entity.

Javier Caraballo, the attorney general of the Nation in charge, revealed on the afternoon of this Wednesday, June 2, that 25 people were apprehended in the operation Oasis.
