The Karaoke World Championships is literally the World Cup of Karaoke. It is the largest and most prestigious global talent competition that uses the karaoke system as its core. It strengthens the bonds of friendship among music enthusiasts at an international level, creating lasting friendships and relationships through the discipline of singing among people from all continents.
Since 2009, the organization KWC PANAMÁ has held a high-performance competition for singers, with the prize of being eligible to represent our country in a global competition. Over the past decade, we have taken Panamanians to compete in the international Karaoke World Championships in countries such as Finland, Sweden, Singapore, Vancouver, and Japan. We also participated in the online KWC International Competition in 2020 and 2021. KWC Panamá returned to in-person competitions in August 2022 in Oslo, Norway.
We have been three-time winners of the First Place Cup in different Soloist categories in 2012, 2014, and 2016. Similarly, we have been International Runner-Up in this category in 2017 and 2018. Panama has also won the Second Place Cup in the Duet category in 2016 and 2017, finally winning First Place in the international Duet competition in 2022. This year, for the first time, the World Final of the Karaoke World Championships will be held in a Latin American country, and we are honored with PANAMA being chosen as the 2023 host country for the competition.
