Our special guest on todays program in the last hour, is the Executive Director of the Museum of Modern Art (MAC) Maria Lucia Aleman.
“For the 2022 edition, the ANNUAL AUCTION wants to celebrate the institution’s 60th anniversary, emphasizing the importance of this legacy for the country’s cultural context. Through 7 sections we want to connect the original spirit of the museum and its history with its present and future in Panama and the region.
In this context, the auction has become over the years an important annual event for the artistic community. In addition to being a fundraising event for the museum, it is also a space of visibility and opportunity for a large number of Panamanian artists, articulating year after year an exhibition where the work of artists of different generations, techniques and origins is shown. The auction offers an overview of the state of the current contemporary creation. In addition, in a context with not many possibilities for professionalization for artists, the auction is an opportunity to market and consolidate their work, and also the possibility of consolidating art collecting in the country.
This year, the auction takes place on the 19th floor of the MMG Tower (Costa del Este), opening to the public several days before the event, expanding its visibility. With this new evolution, the auction wants to once again be a meeting point for the artistic and collecting community, to celebrate the history of recent art in Panama, and to continue betting on a promising future for contemporary artistic practices in the country.”
