Geraldine Petterson

Our special guest in the second hour today is Geraldine Petterson Chapter Leader and Founder of Achilles Foundation (Panama).

Achilles International is a global organization operating in 18 countries, including the US. In the US, it transforms the lives of people with disabilities through sports programs and social connections. Since our founding in 1983, we have trained more than 150,000 athletes of all ages and skill levels to participate in endurance events around the world.
Achilles International’s portfolio of programs includes the Achilles Freedom Team, which serves wounded military personnel and veterans; Achilles Kids, which offers training, career opportunities and a school program for children with disabilities; the TriAchilles Team, which expands our racing program to cycling and swimming; Achilles Chapter Trainings in several countries; and our exclusive Hope & Possibility® race that takes place in several cities around the world.

While our programs focus on running, our main goal has always been to bring hope, inspiration, and the joy of achievement to everyone.
Achilles International Panama chapter initially began in 2018 with training programs for people with visual disabilities. It is dedicated to empowering people with disabilities through sports programs. They offer hope, inspiration and a sense of community to people who face physical challenges every day. Through activities such as running, walking and other adaptive sports, Achilles not only improves the physical well-being of its participants, but it also increases their self-confidence and fosters a sense of belonging.
Achilles’ programs reach a wide range of people with disabilities, including youth and adults. The impact of their work extends beyond each training; it transforms lives and empowers people to overcome adversity. However, none of this would be possible without the support of generous donors like you.

Below are some examples of how we support the community:
Training and equipment: Provides adaptation equipment (competition wheel chairs), running guides, training and nutrition to Achilles athletes , ensuring they have the tools they need to participate in events and improve their physical health.
Events and competitions: Achilles organizes several national and international events and competitions, offering participants the opportunity to challenge themselves and establish and achieve personal goals. Fostering a sense of achievement among participants.
Community Building: Achilles creates a strong sense of community and camaraderie among its participants.
