The Ministry of Health reported this Monday, March 29, that in the last 24 hours two new deaths from coronavirus have been reported. The epidemiological report details that they have update a death from coronavirus from previous days. To date, the total number of deaths in the country due to this virus amounts to 6,103, for a fatality of 1.7%. In addition, 246 new cases of coronavirus are reported after the application of 4,491 tests, and a percentage of positivity of 5.4%. The total number of cases since March of last year rose to 354,085, of which 343,057 patients have recovered. Meanwhile, active cases total 4,925. In home isolation, 4,328 are reported, of which 4,110 are at home and 218 in hotels. While 597 were hospitalized, 504 of them were in the ward and 93 were in intensive care units.

Starting the first week of April, the vaccination of teachers residing in circuits 8-6, 8-10 and 8-1 of the province of Panama will begin.

The dialogue table of the Social Security Fund (CSS) restarted this Monday, March 29, with some setbacks, despite the fact that greater progress was expected in the definition of the methodology plan that will be used in future discussions.

The Government of Panama has to face debt payments for $ 10,694 million in 5 years, between the years 2021 and 2025, according to the debt amortization profile of the Public Financing Directorate of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) . In the calendar, the year 2024 stands out, the last of the current government administration, when it will have to face payments of $ 3.805 million.

The World Bank expects Panama’s economy to grow this year by 9.9%, making it one of the countries in the region with the highest growth in 2021, after having experienced the greatest decline in continental Latin America in 2020, with a contraction of 17.9 %. Only Guyana would experience higher growth in 2021 (20.9%) and after Panama, the performance of Peru (8.1%) stands out, which also suffered a strong contraction in 2020.
