Our guest in the second hour today is the legendary/iconic drummer Billy Cobham who is taking part in this years Panama Jazz Festival. We chat across the spectrum of his career, and his philosophy on preparing to play.
Billy Cobham comments: “In this concert, I will present music from my portfolio of albums that I have not performed in many years, but represent my experiences in the music business for the past 60 years. Alex Blake was the first bassist to perform in my band. He is from Panama, and although he lives quite a bit in the USA, he still has family in Panama City. Alex and I have not performed together since 1975 so I am looking forward to this reunion. Danilo Pérez has been known to me for many, many years. We have not yet performed in collaboration yet, so I like our chances to develop a special musical relationship. I can think of no better place than at Panama Jazz Festival 2024 to premiere “Trio di Panama.”
