Tuesday is movie day. We catch up with Andres Clemente to find out what is worth a watch, or not. Two movies come under his microscope this morning, “Night in Miami” and “Locked Down”.
As for Night in Miami. ” One Night in Miami is a fictional account of one incredible night where icons Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown gathered discussing their roles in the civil rights movement and cultural upheaval of the 60s.
Even though the conversation during that real life meeting is unknown, Kemp Powers takes facts that happened before and after, to construct an amazing narrative and discussion between the characters. The conversation is poignant and relevant to the present day, the performances from all actors are magnetic and this film cannot feel more “just the right time”. A must see movie.”
And Locked Down? ” A couple, during Covid-19 lock down in London, attempts a high-risk, high-stakes jewelry heist at a department store.
The concept of the film is very interesting, and has enormous potential to explore something that is happening all over the world. Sadly, after a promising setup, the second half of the film is as exciting as watching paint dry. Characters make choices that no human being would make, the relationship takes a back seat to the ridiculous robbery, which in turn ends up being completely unsatisfying. The film is a waste of great talent.
