On Monday the plenary session of the National Assembly (AN) opened its legislative sessions corresponding to the fourth period. The deputy of the Nationalist Republican Liberal Movement, Miguel Fanovich, re-elected on July 1 as second vice president, led the plenary session in place of President Crispiano Adames, who reported yesterday morning that he had met with Marcela Galindo de Obarrio, president of the Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture , precisely to “analyze the legislative agenda.”
Deputy Adán Bejerano resigned from the independent caucus of the National Assembly (AN) “immediately and irrevocably.” This was announced by the deputy, Edison Broce, on his Twitter social network account. On the afternoon of Monday, July 4, 2022, specialists from the Gorgas Commemorative Institute for Health Studies confirmed the first case of monkeypox in Panama. This is a 30-year-old Panamanian man who had contacts with visitors from Europe, who later informed him that they had contracted the disease. Immediately, the man went to Gorgas, where they performed the required tests and found that he had been infected. The patient initially remained isolated in his residence and this Tuesday he was transferred to the San Miguel Arcángel hospital, in San Miguelito, where he will receive medical attention, confirmed the Minister of Health, Luis Francisco Sucre, at a press conference.
Various groups of teachers in the country remain unemployed after failing to reach an agreement with the government on their demands due to the high cost of living, while in the protests in the Azuero region there were clashes between educators and crowd control agents. In Azuero, educators from the provinces of Herrera and Los Santos were removed this Tuesday by crowd control agents of the National Police, when they tried to block the passage of vehicles at the height of the La Villa river. The National Police confirmed that 22 Santeño teachers were apprehended, who were placed under the orders of the Justice of the Peace of La Villa de Los Santos.
On the afternoon of this Tuesday, July 5, the preliminary hearing of the case known as New Business concluded, in which the Prosecutor’s Office against Organized Crime asks to call 16 people to trial. This process follows the trail of the purchase of the Editora Panamá América, SA (Epasa) supposedly with public funds. During the hearing, 10 incidents of annulment were filed against the process. However, the judge informed that she would resolve them when she makes her pronouncement on the hearing. This case contains 168 investigation files, which began in 2017.

Panamanian authorities seized some 62 vehicle computers – of different makes and models – as part of intelligence actions carried out in the Villa Lobos sector, Pedregal corregimiento. This is Operation Iron, developed by the Public Ministry, in conjunction with the National Police. As reported, these computers were found in a place where 14 vehicles, 10 engines, 10 taxi-type car doors and license plates were also located during the investigations.
